Seamount College Phase 2 completion
We are delighted to see the recent completion of our Seamount College Phase 2 project
An earlier Phase I extension delivered in 2021 comprised a two storey extension to the existing school with new classroom, admin & staff accommodation as well as a new secondary entrance and courtyard
This larger Phase 2 now completes the masterplan design, providing eight further mainstream classrooms, new specialist technology, science, home economics & art rooms, admin accommodation, new main entrance & vehicular drop off area around a central courtyard
Seamount College Phase 2
With incredible views of Kinvara bay to the north and a backdrop of the burren landscape to the south, the new building’s connect a number of key existing buildings on the site (protected structures). The varied roof form is influenced by its dramatic setting and the building embraces the contoured site while hopefully providing for an inspirational setting for education!
The extension moves the main entrance from the north(sea) to the south(Gort road) with buildings wrapping around new upper & lower level landscaped courtyards, providing sheltered external spaces for students & staff and a new focal point to the school. Phasing of works has involved decanting from existing prefabs over time and where this completed phase will now see the welcome removal of all prefabs from the site.
Sustainability criteria to the project includes a ‘fabric first’ approach through a highly insulated & airtight building envelope, photovoltaic roof panels, rain water harvesting system (providing for the re-use of rainwater throughout the building) high efficiency bathroom fittings for overall reduction of mains water usage, high SRI(Solar Reflective index) roofing & part hardscaping to reduce global ‘heat island’ effect, low energy movement/ambient sensored LED lighting throughout to minimise energy use & a building management system (BMS) to optimize energy usage through the building.
